Standing tall at 2,329 meters above sea level, Mount Bromo saves natural beauty that is dear to you miss. This active volcano is administratively located in four districts in East Java, including Malang, Pasuruan, Lumajang and Probolinggo. This makes it easy for tourists to come from any direction.

The mountain, whose name comes from the name of the deity in the teachings of Hinduism, Dewa Brahma, is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and has become the most famous tourist attraction in the province of East Java. This 800 square km national park covers the area of Mount Bromo and Mount Semeru.

What can be done at Mount Bromo?
This mountain is famous for its beautiful sunrise views. To be able to witness this phenomenon, you have to go up to Penanjakan Peak which is the best location to be able to see the sunrise.

Tell the innkeeper the night before that you want to watch the sunrise. The next day around 2 o'clock in the morning, you will be awakened in preparation for the climb. Feeling tired from climbing will pay off with incredible views of the sunrise. When the sun slowly crept up, the atmosphere will be very calm and only the sound of tourists shooting cameras.

Mount Bromo has a crater with a diameter of about 800 meters from north to south and 600 meters from west to east. With the sulfur content in the crater, it is not surprising that the smell of sulfur is quite sharp when you are standing on the edge. To be able to enjoy the beauty of this crater, you have to climb 250 steps first. If this sounds tiring, there are horses owned by local residents that you can rent.

The air temperature in Mount Bromo ranges between 3-20 degrees Celsius, it can even reach temperatures of minus 0 degrees Celsius. For that, prepare warm clothing, gloves, scarves and headgear. If you forget to bring the equipment, don't worry because you can find traders around the location.

The Tengger tribe

The Tengger tribe is an indigenous tribe that inhabits the area around Mount Bromo. This tribe is synonymous with the appearance of who likes to tie a sarong on the neck or hang it on the shoulder. The Tengger tribe is largely Hindu.

The name Tengger is derived from the names of the pair Roro Anteng and Joko Seger who were the ancestors or ancestors who first established the settlement here. It was also stated that the Tengger tribe were descended from the Majapahit era. Due to the condition of the kingdom at that time increasingly pressed by the influence of Islam, the population ran to Mount Bromo and to Bali. This is what makes both have the same belief.
Yadnya Kasada or Kasodo ceremony

This ceremony is part of the tradition of the Tengger Tribe. Kasodo is usually held on the 14th day of the tenth month of the Javanese Hindu Tengger calendar. The ceremony starts from Luhur Poten Temple which is located at the foot of Mount Bromo. Furthermore, the Tengger tribe will walk to the crater to throw offerings that have been prepared. The offerings are generally in the form of agricultural and plantation products as well as live chickens.

The origin of this ceremony cannot be separated from the story of Joko Seger and Roro Anteng. This couple has long been married and has not been blessed with children. After pleading with the gods, finally Roro Anteng can conceive, but on condition that the youngest child must be sacrificed by throwing him into the crater as an offering.

Long story short, the couple Joko Seger and Roro Anteng have 25 children. Because of their instincts as parents, both of them refused to sacrifice their youngest child. Until then the god got angry and made a big flame lick out of the crater. Residents ran to save themselves, but the couple's youngest child could not be found.

After the disappearance of the child, suddenly there was an unseen voice that said that every year the Tengger tribe had to carry out offering ceremonies in the crater of Mount Bromo. This is the origin of the Kasodo Ceremony.
Whispering Sand

Whispering Sand is a sea of sand that is above altitude. This sea of sand stretches 10 km and is not far from the stairs to the crater of Mount Bromo. The locals call it Segara Wedi. The name Pasir Berbisik is the name given because this place was once the location of a film with the same title. In addition, when the wind blows, the sand will fly and make soft sounds like the sound of people who are whispering.

To be able to enjoy the beauty of this Whispering Sand, you can walk along the grains of sand or by renting a horse that is ready around the location. Don't forget to wear a mask over your mouth and wide glasses. This is because the sand that blows in the wind can disturb your comfort.
