A glimpse of Menjangan
Island
This island is the
perfect definition of an underwater panoramic beauty with pristine white sand
and abundant marine biodiversity.
Why is it called
Menjangan Island? The word "deer" is derived from Javanese which
means deer or deer. Every spring a herd of wild deer swim to this island with a
distance of 1.2 miles. On this island there are many wild deer whose numbers
are decreasing over time. So the government made it a West Bali National Park.
This is an attempt by the government to develop conservation to preserve the
deer and the biodiversity that exists on this island.
What can be done on
Menjangan Island?
What else can you do at
this tourist site besides diving and snorkeling? Menjangan Island is famous for
its wall diving. Wall diving is one type of diving activity at depth by following
the underwater cliff lane. The underwater cliff on Menjangan Island has a depth
of 20 to 60 meters, even more.
Although famous for its
diving wall, Menjangan Island has a lot of coral reefs with depths starting at
10 meters. You will find a lot of gorgonial fanfish fish here. The condition of
the waters here is quite calm so that your visibility can reach 50 meters in
certain weather conditions.
Menjangan Island is
surrounded by coral reefs with various formations and forms. This 60-meter-deep
coral rock formation forms small caves and large caves which function as coral
reef habitats such as soft corals, large groupers and moray eels. Inside these
small caves you will find small snapper and batfish that swim back and forth.
The seabed of the island
is also rich in species of barrel sponges and sea fans with a very large size.
At this depth location is also a place to live for tuna species, hordes of
jackfish, batfish, angelfish, sea turtles, and sharks. Amazing is not it? Some
famous spots for diving which are often used as dive locations on this island
are:
Eel gardens
Eeel gardens is a
diving spot located in the western part of Menjangan Island. This spot is often
referred to as the best diving spot on Menjangan Island. In this spot there are
a lot of collections of garden eels and sea fans, in accordance with the name of
the spot. Diving will begin at a depth of about 40 meters of coral walls which
is rich in gorgonia and other marine biota.
Secret Bay
Secret Bay is the right
location for you macro diving lovers because in this location the waters are
quite shallow with a variety of coral reefs and have muddy sand on the seabed.
In this volcanic sand live various rare and endemic marine biota. This location
is a location that is still very natural and not much touched.
Only with a depth of 10
meters, you can find nudibranchs, frogfish, shrimpfish, seahorses, dragonets,
pipefish, lionfish, sea shrimp, ribbon eels and many other species. But if you
want to enjoy the beauty of these species you have to dive at the right time.

is highly recommended for you to use a good wetsuit because the water
temperature here can be cooler than other Balinese waters.
Anchor Wreck
Anchor Wreck is a
recommended diving location for divers who are experienced and quite
professional. With a depth of about 45 meters, this location offers the
uniqueness of rusty shipwrecks complete with anchors. According to the wider
community, this ship was a Dutch ship that sank in the 19th century during
World War II.
This ship is referred
to as Anker or Slave Vessels, because it allegedly transported slaves from Bali
to Jakarta. If you dive into this boat, you will find a chest filled with
ceramic furniture that has been overgrown with soft coral and turtles and even
sharks that are swimming.
