What else is
interesting from Kuta Beach?
Turtle conservation
Aside from being a
popular tourist spot, it turns out that in this coastal area there is also a
turtle breeding. Not far from the beach, there is a giant turtle-shaped building
in which there is sand for incubation of turtle eggs. The type of turtle that
is here is olive ridley, which is currently considered rare.
The most interesting
thing is the activity of releasing hatchlings or baby turtles to the open sea.
This activity has no definite schedule, whenever the eggs hatch, they will
immediately be released into the sea. This release of hatchlings involves
anyone who wants to join. Each participant will line up and each carrying a
plastic box containing a hatchling. Then simultaneously, they release the
hatchlings. Interested in joining?
When the hatchling is
released it is usually at 16:45. This is with the consideration that birds that
are the main predators of hatchlings will find it hard to see hatchlings at
that hour.
Ground Zero Monument
Not far from Kuta Beach
there is a monument that is familiar. The original name of the Ground Zero
Monument is the Panca Benua Monument, but many call it Ground Zero. This is a
monument that was built to commemorate the victims of the Bali Bombing I
explosion which occurred on October 12, 2002. This monument was inaugurated
exactly two years after the tragedy.
At the bottom of the
monument there is a list of victims' names. Every October 12, this monument is
visited by many families and friends of the victims for a memorial event and a
sow of flowers.
This monument is
located on Paddy’s Café land which was the site of the explosion, precisely on
Jalan Legian which is an entertainment center in Kuta.
