History of Saung Angklung Udjo

The initial vision of the founding of the gazebo was to preserve Sundanese culture and traditional arts.

Mang Udjo is an angklung artist from West Java. He was born on March 5, 1929. Since a very young age, he has been familiar with the art of angklung. In fact he said, he played angklung since the age of 4 years. It is this association of all ages that might make Mang Udjo see angklung, not just as an art game, but rather in a way of life.
On the basis of that great love, with the support of his wife, he later founded Saung Angklung Udjo in 1966.

Mang Udjo died on May 3, 2001. After Mang Udjo's death, Saung Angklung Udjo did not just stop. His 10-years old son apparently inherited the Angklung way of life.
